Idaho's capitol city is situated along the Boise River, and the tree-filled valley is home to corporations like Hewlett-Packard, Micron Technology, Albertsons, Washington Group International, and the Simplot Corporation.
The downtown Boise area is filled with shops, restaurants and art galleries, and is a thriving mini-metropolis. The Idaho Historical Museum and the Basque Block showcase some of Idaho's historical roots, while the Boise Art Museum brings bits of other cultures closer to home. Downtown Boise also boasts some turn-of-the-century buildings that have been renovated to accommodate new businesses. Next to modern structures, these older buildings add historic charm and character to the city.
The Greenbelt is a paved path that runs along 25 miles of the Boise River, and connects several popular parks together. The Greenbelt is ideal for bicyclists, in-line skaters, runners, dog-walkers and recreationalists.
Boise hosts annual events such as Alive After Five, the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, and the Western Idaho Fair. Attractions such as the World Center for Birds of Prey, The Idaho Botanical Gardens and the Old Penitentiary, and Zoo Boise are also featured. Other nearby recreation spots within a two-hour driving distance include Sun Valley, McCall, Tamarack, Hells Canyon, the Craters of the Moon National Park, and Bruneau Hot Springs.
