Stop by the Warm Springs campus over the next few days to witness the progress. Apparently, the building will take shape very quickly over the next week.

Riverstone ranks among top schools in the country

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

Newsweek released its annual public school rankings earlier this week. The rankings use an index that basically divides the number of AP courses taken by the students this year by the total number of graduating students.

Click here to see Newsweek list of the top 500 school

Unfortunately, Riverstone was not permitted to be part of the study as an independent school. However, it is worth noting that Riverstone’s index is 5.97 for 2009, placing it firmly at 25th place across the entire USA.

Congratulations to all of our IB students for such an achievement.

MYP Exchange Unit Colegio CIEDI

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

Riverstone is excited to anounce the creation of a new MYP unit and international link with Colegio CIEDI in Bogota.

CIEDI is quite similar in philosophy to Riverstone. It is a bilingual IB (PYP, MYP, DP) world school for 500 students situated on the norther edge of Bogota.

The new Grade 8 unit involves student comparing and contrasting the interdependency of humanity and the environment in Bogota and the rain forest with Boise and the Rockies.

The culminating assessment uses the latest technology to simulate real business world projects. Group of 4 students (2 from Boise and 2 from Bogota) will work collaboratively using web 2.0 technology to create a joint presentation.

Following the project, students from Bogota will visit Riverstone, stay with host families, attend classes and take part in the spring outdoor trips.

Student from Boise will have the option to attend classes for a few weeks in Colegio CIEDI in spring. The only cost for this exchange will be the cost of plane ticket.

Grade 5 students from Riverstone and Colegio CIEDI in Bogota will be involved with a joint IB project next year. The collaborative project will be based around Cultures and Celebrations and will provide the framework for the final PYP exhibition.

Riverstone students can expect to communicate by email with students from Colegio CIEDI as soon as September. Several Video-Conference sessions are planned for continued collaboration throughout the year. The culminating exercise will be to produce a joint Boise/Bogota calendar that will presented to the IBO.
