Boise boy’s ‘Star Wars’ wish wins a national award from Make-a-Wish Foundation

Friday, October 30th, 2009

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Idaho, wish granters Riverstone One Stone Club, and volunteers from the Treasure Valley have been honored by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America with it’s 2009 INFINITE WISH Award for Mitch’s wish project STAR WAITERS.  The INFINITE WISH Award is given to the chapter that involves a whole community in granting a wish and Mitch Kohler’s wish to be a movie producer and be in a STAR WARS fan film was chosen for the organization’s 2009 award from 13,600 wishes granted this year.

This is the second time in 5 years that a Riverstone One Stone Make-A-Wish project has been recognized with the national organization’s INFINITE WISH Award.  One Stone Executive Director Teresa Poppen said “It’s great! And I think it’s unheard of to be honored twice with this Award.”

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Idaho Executive Director, Torene Bonner, and Program Services Director, Nancy Berry, received the award last week at the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America’s annual meeting in Phoenix, Arizona.

Much credit goes to the One Stone students who poured their time and creative effort into this wish.  The wish movie was volunteer produced by Riverstone parent Ben Shedd and dozens of Riverstone families became part of Mitch’s wish when they joined the big Bollywood/Boisewood dance at the movie’s end, showing indeed “We are Fam-i-lee.”

Many Kudos to the Riverstone One Stone Club for its numerous service projects throughout the Treasure Valley and for this national recognition – for a second time – from the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America.

For the STAR WAITERS Riverstone One Stone team, volunteers, and dance families, there are now STAR WAITERS DVDs to say thanks to you for joining this community in making Mitch’s wish happen.  The DVDs are available at the front desks of both the Broadway and Warm Springs Campus.

Riverstone ranks among top schools in the country

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

Newsweek released its annual public school rankings earlier this week. The rankings use an index that basically divides the number of AP courses taken by the students this year by the total number of graduating students.

Unfortunately, Riverstone was not permitted to be part of the study as an independent school. However, it is worth noting that Riverstone’s index is 5.97 for 2009, placing it firmly at 25th place across the entire USA.

Congratulations to all of our IB students for such an achievement.
