Shades of Green Kicks Off

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

Elementary, middle, and high school students and staff wore green today to kick off our new environmental awareness program, Shades of Green. Our goal is to decrease our reliance on the earth’s resources while increasing our “shades of green” in as many ways as possible. Students will be measuring lighting levels and reviewing the settings on our automatic thermostats, as well as starting awareness campaigns for the amount of paper consumed in printing and copying, the water used on the lawns, and more. We’ll keep you posted on our progress!

The Intersection of Boise & Ecuador: Riverstone’s Kindergarten Class

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

Señora Waggoner, our Elementary School Spanish teacher who is originally from Ecuador, recently shared traditional Ecuadorian dances, dolls, stories, and traditions with her Kindergarten students. One of the photos shows a student who was ever so sweetly explaining to Señora Waggoner that she looked just like the doll he was holding…now that’s international understanding!

Grade 5: No More Classroom Chairs!

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

At the start of the school year, Brad Baxter, our Grade 5 teacher, noticed that some of the students were having a hard time sitting in their desk chairs for more than 10 minutes at a time. His research led him to consider using exercise balls instead of desk chairs, because they have been found to not only extend concentration time at a desk, but also promote good posture and core strength. Brad asked the students if they’d like to give the balls a try. The decision was a unanimous yes! After two months of school, the decision continues to be a great one. Concentration on school work has increased and disruptions among the students has decreased. Great thinking Mr. Baxter!

We’re Ready!

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

This week, the energy level has been picking up around both the Warm Springs Campus and Broadway Campus. All of our staff are back! They’ve been busy preparing classrooms, have attended planning and training meetings, and obtained or renewed Red Cross First Aid/CPR certifications. All to make sure that 2010-2011 is the best year ever!

For our families and students: Be sure to squeak every last ounce of fun out of the final days of summer vacation!
