RSFC Earns a Draw in their 1st Post-Spring Break Match

April 8th, 2010

On April 7, in their first game back from Spring Break, RSFC weathered a first half onslaught of shots and started the second half 0-0 and eventually took advantage of an opponent red-card in the 66th minute.  Playing a man up, Riverstone created numerous scoring opportunities and finally netted a goal when Ian C. and Steven E. connected off of a Setesen T. corner kick to score what would be RSFC’s only goal.  A long shot by a defensive minded Decepticons team eventually made its way past Riverstone keeper Ian R. to even the score.  The game finished 1-1 and the team walked off the field proud to have matched up well against a bigger and faster squad.

RSFC Starts Strong

March 10th, 2010

On Saturday, March 6 the High School RSFC squad rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the first two minutes against Blazing Saddles, a team comprised of Timberline students.  After shoring up the defense, the team rallied behind goals by Ian C. (’10) and Kang Min K. (’11) to play the Saddles 2-2 through remaining 38 minutes of the first half and went into half time down 4-2.  Stingy play by defender Lucas M. (’13) and goalie Ian R (’12) helped shut down all second half attempts and the midfield was able to create enough opportunities for the strikers to convert 3 goals in the second half.  The final whistle capped a 5-4 victory and one of the most fun and inspiring recent RSFC games.  Shoulda been there…

February 23rd, 2010

The Class of 2010 recently returned from their senior trip, which came on the heels of their IB “Trials Week.”  What better way to celebrate than to head for the mountains to ski, board and snowshoe in some of the most spectacular country around!  It was a great way to wrap up an incredible outdoor program career for some and an unbelievable way to introduce some of the RIS exchange students to the Idaho backcountry!  Check out these pictures from their excursion to Fishhook Yurt…

Middle School Girls Hoops wraps up, High School Girls Get Going

November 26th, 2009

The Middle School Girls wrapped up their season on Tuesday when they hosted the Ambrose Archers.  It was clear that the Riverstone team that took the court yesterday was a much more skilled and confident team than the one that stepped onto the court for the first time over seven weeks ago.  The girls made huge strides and many will be back next year!  Good luck to the 8th graders as they move up to next year’s High School team!

Special thanks to Tarrah Elam for the time and effort that she put into the team!

The High School Girls opened their season with a strong showing against Gem State Academy on Monday in Caldwell.  They matched up well with the Jaguars and, aside from a lopsided 3rd quarter, the girls were even throughout the contest.  As more of the girls get the requisite 10 practices to be eligible for games, the team will gain depth and experience.

4th Grade Fall Trip – Craters of the Moon, Bruneau Dunes and Front Flips!

October 2nd, 2009

Last week, Mrs. Kaserman’s 4th Grade class piled into the Riverstone bus for a three-day whirlwind tour around southern Idaho to wrap up their first quarter landform unit.  Stopping first at the Bruneau Dunes for geology lessons and landscape painting with Jay Nelson, the enthusiastic crew then headed east to camp near Hagerman and the historic Thousand Springs. The following morning, the bus departed for Craters of the Moon National Monument and students went for a two-mile hike through the Blue Dragon lava flow and explored the Buffalo Caves lava tube.  After returning to camp, everyone was excited to rinse off in the naturally heated swimming pool!  And apparently, the flips were the best way to get the dirt off!

The Middle School Girl’s Volleyball team traveled to Compass Charter School on Tuesday, Sept 8, to play the first of many volleyball games to come.  The team, comprised mainly of 6th grade students and several 8th graders, played against Compass’ A and B teams, and doubled their score by their fourth set!  Great job girls!  Next game:  Tuesday, September 15 at home vs Foundations Academy.  Come out and support them!
