Amber Tookey

MYP Art and Design Teacher

Amber Tookey, originally an Evergreen state resident, moved to Idaho in 2009. Already an avid runner, she was drawn to the endless trail systems and remote wilderness of the Gem state. Amber shares her love of running and the outdoors with her husband and daughter as well. Throughout the year her family is typically found out and about, sailing, fishing, hiking, running, jeeping, snowshoeing, camping or horseback riding. Amber’s love for the outdoors is also shared with a deep passion for creating and designing. She loves a good project, whether it’s restoring an old home or tackling a new trade, if she has a vision, she puts it into motion. She has an appreciation of blending design with nature and form following function. Many of her design and construction practices she has learned from hands on experiences or from her husband, who is an architect. Amber and her daughter Maddison both embrace their creative visions and routinely have some art project in the works, it could be a giant recycled sculpture of Megalodon or a collection of amphibian sketches. Most recently Amber had been teaching Grade 8 US History in Kuna but, her experience extends into several different grade levels and disciplines. Her teaching experience encompasses Grades 2–8 in the Treasure Valley. Additionally, she has worked with visually impaired students. In 2022, she had the opportunity to serve as a mentor teacher for two of her previous visually impaired students; while they completed their student teaching. “It was a challenging and incredible experience to work with these two women as they pursued their goals with such tenacity. I loved sharing my knowledge and classroom with them. I know one day, they will have their own students and they’ll love teaching as much as I do.”
