NHD is an annual competition in which Riverstone students grades 5–8 participate. This year’s theme was “Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History.” For this competition, students begin with an idea for a topic, develop a research question, conduct thorough research, and create a thesis statement with supporting evidence, as the foundation for their project. Students also choose the category in which they want to compete: website, paper, exhibit, documentary, or performance. Participating in National History Day challenges students to develop 21st-century thinking skills in an authentic and meaningful way.
In the 2025-26 school year, Riverstone had 29 individuals or groups advance to the State Competition. Join us in congratulating Akshar V. (‘31) and Jamie L. (’28) for progressing to the National competition! These students will be representing Riverstone at Nationals in Washington DC, in June. We are also proud to announce our own Sierra Ray was recognized by the Idaho State Historical Society as the National History Day (NHD) in Idaho Teacher of the Year for the youth division.
