Our Approach
A Personalized Plan for Every Student
At Riverstone, every student benefits from a Learning Map, a personalized educational planning tool designed to help students, families, and school staff make intentional decisions about a student’s academic journey, extracurricular involvement, and future aspirations. More than a one-time plan or checklist, the Learning Map is a living document that is reviewed and updated each year, evolving alongside the student as their interests, strengths, and goals develop.
The Learning Map encourages thoughtful academic planning by helping students connect the choices they make today with their long-term goals. Course selections, academic challenges, language study, electives, and future college aspirations are all considered within the context of each student’s unique talents and interests. This process empowers students to take ownership of their educational experience while ensuring they remain on a path aligned with their ambitions.
What makes Riverstone’s Learning Map especially valuable is the personalized guidance that supports it. Because our faculty and advisors know students well through years of classroom learning, advisory relationships, extracurricular activities, and community engagement, they are able to provide meaningful, informed guidance tailored to each individual student.
Beyond academics, the Learning Map helps students reflect on who they want to become as learners, leaders, and community members. It encourages goal-setting, self-awareness, and intentional growth while keeping families actively involved in the planning process. By connecting present decisions to future possibilities, the Learning Map helps every student build a purposeful and fulfilling path through their Riverstone experience and beyond.

Elementary School
The Learning Map journey begins in Elementary School, where students, families, and educators work together to build a strong foundation for future growth. At this stage, Learning Maps focus on literacy and mathematics development, learning support or enrichment opportunities, extracurricular involvement, and personal goal setting. Through ongoing conversations, Riverstone develops a deep understanding of each student as a learner while also learning about family aspirations and long-term goals. This collaborative partnership helps ensure every child is supported, challenged, and inspired throughout their educational journey.

Middle School
In Middle School, Learning Maps encourage students to take a more active role in shaping their educational experience. Students begin setting meaningful goals, measuring progress, and exploring how their interests, strengths, and passions connect to future opportunities. Learning Maps introduce academic pathways, extracurricular exploration, and early college counseling conversations beginning in Grade 8. Through collaborative meetings involving students, families, and school leadership, students receive personalized guidance, support, and opportunities for enrichment as they begin thinking more intentionally about their future.

High School
High School Learning Maps help students transform their interests and goals into a focused plan for success. Building on earlier years of reflection and exploration, students work with advisors to select academic pathways and course concentrations that align with their strengths, passions, and university aspirations. Learning Maps also connect students with extracurricular opportunities, leadership experiences, Bridge internships, and personalized college counseling. The result is a highly individualized roadmap that prepares students to achieve outstanding outcomes and confidently pursue their goals beyond Riverstone.
Intentional, Individualized Planning for Every Student
At Riverstone International School, we believe that excellent outcomes begin with knowing students well. Our Learning Map process is designed to ensure that each student receives thoughtful, individualized guidance as they prepare for life after high school.
