Last Thursday and Friday evenings, the Broadway Campus was transformed into the Tower of London circa 1485 when our IB Theatre Arts students presented Richard III by William Shakespeare. Given that the cast consisted of only seven actors, our IB Theatre Arts Teacher and Director, Renee Knappenberger, and the cast had to get creative. In true Riverstone style, “docents” toured the audience through vignettes that took place on all three levels of the building and each actor took on several roles within the play. Audience members had the rare experience of being within inches of the actors. Senior Dylan H. gave a chilling portrayal of Richard III as he rose and fell from power. By changing accessories, body language, and vocals, the supporting actors convincingly conveyed the other characters in one of Shakespeare’s greatest works. As one audience member descended the stairs to the basement vault, he commented, “This is one play I will never forget!”
Bravo!
We’re missing one cast member from this final photo who had to quickly leave after the play. Thanks to Debbi W and Davis G for sharing your photos!
