Scrumptious Cells

To add some sweetness to Grade 7 Science class, teacher John Pedersen asked the students to bake and decorate cakes that showed off their knowledge of cells.

When asked to reflect on their project, one student wrote, “This project was really fun to do because we got to bake cakes and decorate them in class. I would be happy to do this again because we not only got to bring in cake, but we also had to make sure we knew how a cell was set up and what organelles we needed to put in. Making this cake really cemented my knowledge of an animal cell, what organelles are in it as well as sizing of the organelles. It was really fun and it’s a great project to do during the cell unit.”
