Andy Johnson, Grade 7 Humanities teacher and D.C. trip chaperone writes, “We’ve nearly come to the end of another fantastic day here in D.C. Unfortunately, Senator Crapo canceled his appointment with us at 0900, but the Capitol tour and Senate Gallery were both excellent. We listened to Senator Barbara Boxer (D CA) speak about the Economic Development Agency. It was really interesting to sit and watch the carefully choreographed procession of aides, posters, podiums, notes and the like be brought, gathered, and quickly taken away.
After the Capitol, we saw several monuments and memorials including the Washington Monument, World War Two Memorial, Vietnam Memorial and Lincoln Memorial. We stopped frequently to rest tired feet, drink water, and eat ice cream. On our way to dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe we got another surprise – the arrival of many, many VIPS for the State Dinner for the Chancellor of Germany at the White House. Armored Suburbans, bomb dogs, policemen with machine guns, Secret Service and the streets adorned with German and American flags. Very cool.”
So…is there anyone else reading about this trip who is thinking that they’d like to be there too??
The above two photos were taken at Gettysburg. The kids are charging down the same field in which Pickett and his men met their fates on July 3, 1863.
