Last week, the library was transformed into Bookville, an imaginary community, and Kindergarten students played a giant floor size board game where they visited community facilities and encountered many community helpers along the way to the Town Square. They visited the Hospital when they had an accident, the School Library to tell their teacher what their favorite part of school was, the Bookstore to find a book, the Records Building to find out information about a famous person (biography section), the Museum to learn about animals they might see on a safari (non-fiction section), as well as the the Court House to discuss their delinquent books. They may also have encountered a policeman when they talked about safety or broke a rule, a fireman to save a cat in a tree, an ambulance, or helped people in need. This library activity was part of their Unit of Inquiry, There’s Work to Do.

Thanks to Mrs. Tabb for the fun day in Bookville!
