Last Thursday, Grade 2 wrapped up their “Animal Architecture” unit with an open house featuring research presentations. Throughout the unit, students studied a variety of animal builders, learning about the materials required to build their structures and the necessary steps to build their fascinating nests, underground homes, and colonies. Students focused on writing mechanics during the unit, developing their editing skills, improving sentence and paragraph structure, and concentrating on the overall writing process.

For the open house, each student presented a five-paragraph essay detailing a particular animal builder and its architecture, as well as the conservation efforts humans can make to help preserve the animal and its habitat. Wow!
