On Thursday, our Grade 2 students wrapped up six weeks of preparation with two successful presentations of their production of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. Over 250 audience members enjoyed this year’s show! The students worked extremely hard to memorize their lines and express the emotions of their characters, and the performance was a huge hit with adults and children alike!

One unique characteristic of this project that could only be found at Riverstone was the collaboration between teachers and students from all levels of the school community. Students worked in music class with Mr. Brown to learn and perform an adaptation of Train’s hit song “Hey, Soul Sister,” titled “Hey, Mr. Shakespeare.” In art class, students worked with Mr. Jay to create props, background scenery and character illustrations. Grade 10 and 11 students came with high school art teacher, Mr. Harper, to work with the second graders on creating set designs. It was a fast and furious morning with a lot of paint flying, but the younger and older students worked incredibly well together to create bold, colorful scenes. Grade 9 music students, under the direction of Mrs. Steven, met with the second graders to discuss the play and then created love, funny, evil and sad theme music that ran as the sound track for the play. In the end, teachers and students from all three divisions worked together to help make this production a success!
